Obverse description Facing head of Hermes, turned very slightly to the left, rendered with fine early Classical modelling; the deity wears a broad-brimmed petasos adorned with a distinctive studded or beaded rim along its lower edge. Flowing locks of hair emerge from beneath the hat on either side of the face, framing the well-defined features of the youthful god. The die-work is of high quality, with careful attention to facial musculature and the subtle three-quarter perspective characteristic of Ainean coinage of this period.
