Reverse description A large crescent or lunate device dominates the central field, rendered in high relief with a concave interior, a form typical of Messapian coinage of this period. Two retrograde archaic Greek letters appear within the crescent's concavity in the upper field. The retrograde legend ΒΑΛΕΘΑS is distributed around the lower periphery of the flan, partially encircling the central device.
