| Obverse description | Laureate and cuirassed bust of the emperor Caracalla facing right, depicted from a rear three-quarter perspective that reveals the elaborate scale-decorated cuirass and paludamentum. The emperor's strongly modelled features — prominent brow, short beard, and characteristically intense expression — are rendered in high relief. The circular Greek legend surrounds the effigy, with the abbreviated title and name of the emperor running from lower left around to the right field. The letters ΠΠ (Pater Patriae) appear in the lower right field. |
