| Obverse description | Radiate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Gordianus III facing right, depicted with youthful features characteristic of his portraiture. The effigy shows the emperor in military dress with paludamentum visible at the shoulder. A circular Greek legend surrounds the bust, running from lower left to upper right around the periphery of the flan. The coin exhibits the irregular, hand-struck flan typical of provincial bronze coinage of the mid-third century AD. Surface shows dark patination with areas of heavy encrustation consistent with extended burial. |
