| Beschrijving keerzijde | A tripod lebes with three ring handles and lion's-paw feet stands in the central field, a symbol closely associated with Apollo and the civic identity of Leontini. A lyre is depicted behind the tripod in the right field, further referencing the Apolline iconographic programme. Barley grains appear to the left and right of the tripod, alluding to the agricultural prosperity of the Leontine plain. Three pellets arranged below the tripod serve as the value mark denoting the tetras (one-third litra). The composition is well-centred within the flan, consistent with Sicilian bronze coinage of the early fourth century BC. |
