| Obverse description | Rooster standing to right in the field, rendered in bold relief with detailed plumage articulated on the wing and tail feathers; the comb and wattles are prominently modelled. The ethnic abbreviation ZIZ appears to the right of the figure in archaic Greek characters, identifying the Punic mint of Panormos (Ziz). The flan is irregular and the die style is characteristic of early Sicilian bronze coinage. |

| Additional information |
Ziz was the Punic name for Panormus — modern Palermo — and this bronze was struck during the period of Carthaginian expansion across western Sicily that culminated in the destruction of Selinus and Himera in 409 BC. The tetras, valued at three onkiai, circulated within a monetary system rooted in Sicilian Greek convention even as the issuing authority was unmistakably Semitic.
The CNS I-2 classification places this among the earliest bronze issues from the mint, predating the full Carthaginian consolidation of the region after 405 BC.
