Obverse description Eagle standing right with wings spread, clutching a hare in its talons; the bird is rendered with finely detailed feathering on the wings and body. The Greek city abbreviation AKPA appears in the left field, identifying the issuing authority of Akragas. The composition is set within a plain circular border and occupies the majority of the flan. The style is characteristic of the vigorous naturalism associated with Sicilian bronze coinage of the late fifth century BC.
