Chios was unusual among the cities that struck posthumous Alexanders — it maintained a degree of civic autonomy under the Attalid sphere long after most Ionian mints had been absorbed or suppressed, and the magistrate name Timodamas appears on a relatively tight cluster of dies placing this issue firmly in the mid-second century. The city's commercial importance as a wine-exporting hub gave it both the bullion supply and the economic motive to sustain a coinage keyed to the international Attic standard rather than pivot to a local reduced standard as some neighbors did.

Price 2433 is among the later Chian posthumous issues and is occasionally encountered with slight die wear on the reverse, consistent with an extended production run rather than a single campaign striking.
