| Obverse description | Youthful bare head of Heracles facing right, clad in the Nemean lion-skin headdress, the scalp drawn over the crown with the beast's muzzle and forelegs visible at the nape and cheek. The bold high-relief portrait displays finely engraved curling locks escaping beneath the pelt, conveying the heroic idealization standard to the Alexandrine coinage tradition. The field is plain, and the flan is bordered by a dotted inner circle typical of posthumous Chian issues. |
