The Thasian tetradrachm became the dominant trade coin of the northern Balkans from roughly the mid-second century BC onward, and Celtic tribes across Thrace and the middle Danube basin copied it so prolifically that the imitative series eventually dwarfed the Thasian originals in sheer volume. This piece belongs to that sprawling tradition — progressively abstracted across generations of hand-cut dies, each engraver working from a coin rather than a prototype, compounding deviations with every step.
Göbl's class II 4 places this variety at a relatively advanced stage of stylistic drift.
