| Obverse description | Bust of Shapur I facing right, depicted in high relief with the distinctive Sasanian korymbos (hair-globe) surmounted by a crenellated crown or mural crown. The king's beard and hair are rendered in a series of carefully arranged curls or pellets, characteristic of early Sasanian portraiture. The effigy is surrounded by a circular Inscriptional Pahlavi legend reading the royal titulature. The flan is irregular, consistent with a hammered overstrike, and portions of the undertype are faintly visible in the field. |

The overall relief is worn, consistent with the overstrike technique and heavy circulation, with traces of the undertype visible at the coin's periphery. |
