| 表面の説明 | Diademed head of Seleukos II Kallinikos in right profile, with carefully rendered curling hair secured by a royal diadem, the ends of which fall behind the neck. The portrait is rendered in the Hellenistic tradition of idealized royal imagery, with fine facial features and a naturalistic treatment of the hair. The bust is set within a plain field bordered by a dotted bead-and-reel circle. |

Seleukos II inherited a fractured empire: his reign opened with the Third Syrian War against Ptolemy III, who sacked Antioch and briefly occupied much of the Seleucid heartland. The Teos mint, on the Ionian coast, was among the western mints operating during this period of contested control, and its output reflects the urgent need to pay troops and administrators across a frontier that kept shifting.
The SC 644 series is well-documented by Houghton and Lorber, with die linkage studies showing relatively limited production runs from Teos compared to the major eastern mints.
