背面描述 Athena Nikephoros standing right aboard a quadriga of four elephants advancing to right, her right arm raised and hurling a spear while her left arm bears a large round shield. The composition is dynamic and highly detailed, with the four elephants rendered in profile. Behind the main device appears the letter B, while an anchor symbol oriented to the right and the monogram ΔΙ appear above and to the right in the field. The reverse legend ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΣΕΛΕΥΚΟΥ runs around the design, identifying the issuer as King Seleukos.

附加信息

Seleukos I founded his mint at Seleukeia-on-the-Tigris after retaking Babylon in 312 BC — the event from which the Seleucid Era itself is dated. That calendar, counting years from that reconquest, was still in use by some communities in the Near East well into the Christian period. SC 1.130 places this issue among the earlier Tigris mint productions, before the administrative machinery of the new empire had fully settled into the standardized fabric it would later impose across a territory stretching from Anatolia to Bactria.
