| Beschrijving keerzijde | A grapevine laden with four clusters of grapes is depicted at the centre of a square incuse panel, its sinuous tendrils and broad leaves rendered in fine relief, reflecting Maroneia's identity as a renowned wine-producing city. The square panel is bordered by a plain raised frame, with the magistrate's name legend ΕΠΙ ΠΥΘΟΔΩΡΟ (meaning 'under Pythodoros') arranged in Greek characters around the exterior of the square, distributed across the four sides. In each corner area outside the central square, circular and triangular ornamental symbols serve as decorative field markers. The composition is characteristic of Maroneian tetradrachms of the late fifth century BC, where the grapevine serves as the city's principal civic emblem. |
