Obverse description Facing lion's scalp rendered in high relief, with boldly modeled features including large forward-facing eyes, a broad flattened muzzle, and an open mouth with visible teeth. The mane is depicted in radiating ridged striations encircling the face, characteristic of the archaic Samian artistic style. The scalp fills the flan entirely, with the irregular coin edge adding to its commanding, mask-like presence. The overall treatment is vigorous and naturalistic for the period, consistent with late archaic Greek engraving traditions.
