| Reverse description | Zeus Aetophoros enthroned left upon a throne with footrest, his extended right hand presenting an eagle with spread wings and his left hand resting upon a tall scepter. A thunderbolt is depicted in the left field, and the mint control mark ΡΥ appears below the throne. The royal legend ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ runs in two lines flanking the enthroned deity, identifying the issue as struck in the name of Alexander III. The composition is rendered in the characteristic Ptolemaic style, closely derived from the standard Alexandrine tetradrachm type. |
