| Obverse description | Facing right, the helmeted head of Athena is rendered in fine Hellenistic style, her Attic helmet adorned with a laurel wreath and a prominent triple crest, the cheek guards slightly raised. Flowing locks of hair cascade beneath the helmet onto the neck, rendered with careful attention to naturalistic detail. The portrait is executed with high relief, occupying the full field of the flan, with no legend on this side. The die engraving displays the accomplished craftsmanship typical of Troadic civic coinage of the second century BC. |
