| Obverse description | Portrait of Philip V rendered as the hero Perseus, facing left, lightly bearded, wearing a winged helmet surmounted by a griffin crest, with a harpa resting over his right shoulder. The effigy is set within the central tondo of a Macedonian shield, the broad rim of which is decorated with seven crescents each enclosing a star, arranged in a regular pattern around the circumference. The composition is characteristic of the royal Macedonian iconographic tradition, asserting both the divine lineage and martial authority of the king. |
