Reverse description A nude youth, identified as a jockey or victorious rider, seated on a walking horse moving to the right, holding the reins in one hand and a long palm branch — symbol of athletic victory — in the other. A thunderbolt appears in the lower field beneath the horse. The Greek legend ΦΙΛΙΠΠΟΥ (of Philip) runs around the design, and the letter N appears in the exergue, serving as a mint or workshop control mark. The composition reflects the Macedonian royal celebration of equestrian victories at the Panhellenic games.
