Obverse description Laureate head of Zeus facing right, rendered in high relief with exceptional naturalistic detail. The god is depicted bearded, with long flowing locks of hair falling behind the neck and a prominent laurel wreath crowning the head, its leaves and berries modelled with fine precision. The facial features display the idealized, mature masculine quality characteristic of the finest Macedonian die-engravers of the 4th century BC. The broad, slightly incuse field frames the effigy with no legend or inscription.
