| Obverse description | Facing lion's scalp displayed en face, with the skin splayed flat and viewed from directly above. The broad, flattened muzzle is rendered with deeply incised nostrils and a powerful brow ridge, framed by a radiating mane of finely engraved, flame-like tufts extending to the coin's edge. The ears are prominently indicated at either side, and the overall composition fills the flan with bold, high-relief modelling characteristic of late 5th- to early 4th-century Samian coinage. |
