| Beschrijving keerzijde | Armored cavalryman galloping to the left, depicted in the act of leveling a spear downward toward a fallen enemy soldier below the horse. The fallen warrior, rendered in a highly schematized and abstracted manner characteristic of Celtic coinage, holds a Macedonian round shield. The composition ultimately derives from the coinage of Patraos of Paeonia but has been significantly barbarized in execution. A garbled and largely illegible inscription, derived from the original Greek legend of the Patraean prototype, appears in the field, degenerated to the point of pseudo-lettering. |
