| Reverse description | A warrior on horseback, the horse rearing dramatically to the right, with the rider poised to deliver a downward spear-thrust at a fallen or crouching enemy below, who raises a round shield in defense. The composition closely follows the Patraos tetradrachm type of the Paeonian kingdom, here rendered in a Celticised provincial style with bold, energetic forms. The Greek legend ΠATPAOY is disposed around the equestrian group in the field. The overall execution reflects the transmission of Macedonian and Paeonian iconographic traditions through Celtic artistic conventions. |
