| Description de l’avers | Bare, unlaureate head of Emperor Nero facing right, rendered in the Hellenistic portrait tradition with fleshy features, thick neck, and characteristic wavy hair swept forward over the brow. The effigy is boldly modelled in high relief against a flat field, with a slightly protruding chin and prominent ear visible. A partial Greek legend runs along the left periphery of the flan, identifying the emperor by his full titulature. The irregular flan is characteristic of the provincial hammered coinage of Crete under the Julio-Claudian dynasty. |
