| Descripción del anverso | Diademed head of Mithradates VI Eupator facing right, rendered in the Hellenistic portrait tradition with idealizing features recalling the imagery of Alexander the Great and Dionysos. The king's abundant, wavy hair falls in thick, undulating locks about his neck and temples, a hallmark of his royal iconography. The diadem is tied behind the head with the ends visible above the neck. The portrait is executed in high relief with fine musculature of the face, a strong aquiline nose, and a youthful, imperious expression. The field is otherwise bare, focusing full attention on the commanding royal effigy. |

Mithridates VI struck this tetradrachm during the third and final war against Rome, the year 73 BC placing it squarely within the siege of Cyzicus — a catastrophic failure that effectively broke Pontic offensive power in the west. The mint at Pergamon, formerly the administrative heart of the Roman province of Asia, had fallen under his control during his earlier sweep through the region and continued operating under Pontic authority.
The regnal year ΔKΣ (224 of the Pontic era) combined with the magistrate monogram Ϲ allows precise placement within the sequential die studies that distinguish this series. SNG von Aulock 6681 remains the standard reference point for this magistrate pairing.
