| Beschrijving voorzijde | Diademed head of Mithridates VI Eupator facing right, portrayed in the Hellenistic royal tradition with an idealized, youthful effigy. The hair is rendered with elaborate, flowing locks radiating dynamically from the crown and temples, a hallmark of the so-called 'Alexander-inspired' portraiture adopted by Pontic royal coinage. A plain diadem is tied at the back of the head, its ends visible behind the neck. The finely modeled facial features — high cheekbones, a prominent nose, and a strong chin — are rendered in high relief with accomplished die-cutting characteristic of the Pergamene mint. The field is plain, with no surrounding legend on the obverse. |
