| Obverse description | Diademed and draped bust of Mithridates VI Eupator facing right, his thick, flowing hair rendered in wild, deeply-cut waves cascading behind and around the neck in the idealized Hellenistic tradition evoking the portraits of Alexander the Great. The royal diadem is tied at the back with the ends visible above the neck. The king's strongly modelled profile displays a prominent straight nose, full lips, and a firm chin, reflecting the fine die-cutting quality characteristic of the Pergamene mint. The field is plain and unlettered, with no legend on the obverse. |
