| Obverse description | Bare-headed, diademed portrait of Mithridates VI Eupator in high relief, facing right, rendered in the idealized Hellenistic royal tradition evoking Alexander the Great. The king is depicted as a youthful, clean-shaven figure with an abundance of thick, luxuriant curls arranged in an anastole above the forehead and flowing down to the neck. A plain royal diadem is tied around the head, with the loose ends falling behind.
