| Descrizione del dritto | Bare diademed head of Mithridates VI Eupator facing right, portrayed in the Hellenistic royal tradition with idealized, youthful features. The hair is rendered in long, flowing locks swept dramatically back from the brow and falling behind the neck in deeply carved, undulating waves, evoking the leonine coiffure associated with Alexander the Great. The facial profile is finely modeled with a strong jaw, prominent nose, and slightly parted lips, conveying both royal authority and divine pretension. The diadem ribbon is tied at the back of the head. The portrait is executed in high relief with exceptional artistic quality characteristic of the Pergamene mint. |
