| Obverse description | Diademed effigy of Mithridates VI Eupator in right-facing profile, rendered in the idealized Hellenistic royal portrait tradition. The king's luxuriant, deeply wavy hair streams dramatically behind him, filling the field with vigorous, wind-blown locks executed in high relief. A simple diadem binds the hair above the forehead, the ends trailing into the flowing mass. The facial features are youthful and idealized, with a straight nose, firm chin, and slightly parted lips, evoking the portrait conventions of Alexander the Great. No legend appears on the obverse; the portrait itself dominates the flan. |
