Maximianus received the title Herculius — "of Hercules" — when Diocletian restructured imperial authority under the Tetrarchy in 285–286 AD, assigning each emperor a divine patron to legitimize the new power-sharing arrangement. Alexandria's mint, one of the most prolific provincial operations in the empire, continued dating its issues by regnal year using the Egyptian calendar, making precise dating of this series unusually straightforward compared to most Roman provincial bronze. The LE designation marks Egyptian year 35 of the Diocletianic era — 290–291 AD — placing this piece squarely within the early Tetrarchic reorganization of Egypt's coinage.
