| Obverse description | Diademed head of the deified Alexander III (the Great) facing right, rendered in fine Hellenistic style with abundant wavy locks swept back from the forehead and cascading behind the neck. A prominent horn of Ammon curls above the right ear, asserting Alexander's divine status as son of Zeus-Ammon. The portraiture is of high artistic quality, with deeply modelled facial features, a strong aquiline profile, and sensitively engraved hair. A small control mark appears below the truncation of the neck. No legend is present on the obverse. |
