| Obverse description | Diademed head of the deified Alexander the Great facing right, his wild, flowing locks rendered with characteristic Hellenistic vigour, the diadem tied at the back with trailing ends visible above the neck. The ram's horn of Ammon curls behind the ear, alluding to Alexander's divine association with Zeus-Ammon following his visit to the oracle at Siwa. The portrait is struck in high relief with exceptional plasticity, exhibiting the idealised yet powerful physiognomy standard to the Lysimachean coinage series. A dotted border frames the field. |
