| Obverse description | Diademed head of the deified Alexander the Great facing right, portrayed in heroic style with flowing, wavy hair swept back from the forehead. A prominent ram's horn of Ammon curls forward beneath the diadem above the ear, indicating Alexander's divine association with Zeus-Ammon. The portrait is rendered in high relief with exceptional sculptural quality, characteristic of the finest Lysimachean coinage. The effigy fills the field generously, with the neck truncation at the lower edge of the flan. |

Lysimachos died at the Battle of Corupedium in 281 BC, leaving his kingdom without a successor capable of holding it together. The Ainos mint, operating in Thrace near the Hebros estuary, continued striking in his name posthumously — a practice common among successor cities seeking monetary continuity and the commercial credibility his portrait still carried across the Aegean trade networks. HGC 3.2#1750r designates this as a rare variety within the posthumous series.
