Obverse description King Kanishka I depicted standing facing left in full military attire, holding a trident in his right hand, with a sacrificial altar to his left from which flames emerge. The figure is rendered in the characteristic Kushan frontal-stance tradition with heavy drapery. A Bactrian legend in Greek-derived script runs around the periphery of the field, identifying the ruler. The style reflects the syncretic Greco-Bactrian artistic vocabulary adapted for Kushan coinage.
