| Reverse description | Forepart of a stag to right with head reverted, rendered in fine engraved relief with naturalistic musculature. A palm tree occupies the left field, a recurring emblem in Ephesian civic iconography. The magistrate's name KAΛΛIKPATHΣ is inscribed downward in the right field, identifying the issuing magistrate Kallikrates. The composition is typical of the series of Ephesian tetradrachms struck under named magistrates during the mid-fourth century BC, combining the stag motif sacred to Artemis with civic and administrative identifiers. |
