Obverse description Griffin seated right in high relief, with prominent spread wings rendered in fine feather detail, forelegs extended forward and leonine haunches drawn beneath the body. The creature's beak is open and its crest is raised, conveying a sense of dynamic alertness characteristic of Abderitan coinage of this period. The magistrate's name ΚΑΛΛΙΔΑΜΑΣ is inscribed in Greek letters disposed around the griffin in the field, reading partially to the left and right of the central device. The design is executed with exceptional artistry within a finely beaded border, reflecting the accomplished engraving style associated with the Thracian mint of Abdera in the second half of the fifth century BC.
