Obverse description Laureate head of Zeus facing right, rendered in fine high relief with characteristic flowing beard and hair adorned with an olive wreath. The portraiture displays the mature, idealised Macedonian style associated with the Amphipolis mint, with deeply modelled facial features and naturalistic treatment of the hair falling in long locks behind the neck. A dotted border frames the inner field along the coin's edge.
