He extends his right arm forward, upon which a small eagle (aetos) perches facing left, while his left hand rests upon a long vertical scepter. The Greek legend ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ runs along the right and upper fields, reading 'Of King Alexander.' A small mint control symbol appears in the left field below the throne, and the composition is enclosed within a beaded border. The rendering of Zeus reflects the canonical type established under Alexander III and continued posthumously at Amphipolis. |
