Obverse description Youthful, beardless head of Heracles facing right, depicted in high relief with idealized Hellenistic features, enveloped in the scalp of the Nemean lion headdress, the gaping jaws of the lion crown framing the top and left side of the effigy, with the paws knotted at the neck. The curling locks of hair emerge beneath the lion skin at the temple and ear. The portrait is rendered with fine engraving characteristic of the early Pella mint issues, with a broad, smooth flan and iridescent cabinet toning visible on the fields.
