The modeling is bold and high-relief, with finely rendered curls escaping from beneath the lion skin at the temples and forehead. No legend appears in the field, the design filling the flan to the very edges in characteristic early Pella style. |

Price 213 is among the earlier posthumous issues struck at Pella following Alexander's death in 323 BC, though the type was already being produced in his lifetime. The Pella mint ramped up production dramatically during the eastern campaigns to pay soldiers and satraps, and the sheer volume struck means die-links across this series are unusually well-documented — Price's corpus identified dozens of obverse dies for this type alone.
The 325–315 BC window straddles the transition from lifetime to posthumous issue, a distinction that remains contested for individual specimens without die-matching.
