By 180 BC, Alexander's name had been dead for over 140 years, yet Macedonian mints — and dozens of successor mints across the eastern Mediterranean — continued striking tetradrachms in his name as a matter of commercial convenience rather than political nostalgia. The type was simply trusted. Merchants from Egypt to Bactria accepted it without argument, which no locally branded coinage could guarantee.
Price 636 places this issue firmly at Pella in the late antigonid period, struck under Perseus, the last Macedonian king before Rome dismantled the kingdom entirely at Pydna in 168 BC.
