The portrait is rendered in high relief with finely detailed curling hair emerging beneath the lion skin, conveying the heroic ideal associated with Alexander III. | Description du revers | Zeus Aëtophoros seated left on a high-backed throne with decorative legs, his upper body bare and draped from the waist, holding a long sceptre upright in his left hand and extending his right hand to present an eagle (aetos) perched upon his outstretched wrist. The throne is rendered in fine detail with prominent footrest. The Greek legend ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ runs downward along the right field. The entire design is enclosed within a beaded border.
