Additional information

Price 218 is among the better-documented issues from the Pella mint during Alexander's lifetime and the immediate years following his death in 323 BC — meaning some of these coins were struck while Alexander was still alive in Babylon, and others after his generals had already begun maneuvering for control of the empire. The distinction matters historically, though the coins themselves are nearly indistinguishable.

Pella, as the Macedonian royal capital, was the administrative heart of the coinage operation. Dies from this mint show tighter control than many eastern issues struck on campaign.
