Obverse description Bare head of the youthful Heracles facing right, wearing the scalp of the Nemean lion as a headdress, with the beast's gaping jaws resting upon the crown of the head and its paws knotted at the throat. The modelling is bold and vigorous in the Hellenistic tradition, with deeply rendered curling hair visible beneath the lion skin. The flan is irregular, with no legend or border ornament, the design filling the field to the rim.
