Price 253 places this issue firmly within the posthumous Alexander series struck at Pella during a period when the Macedonian mint was operating under the shifting authority of the Diadochi. By 315 BC, Cassander controlled Macedonia and continued striking in Alexander's name — not out of reverence, but because the coinage had become an international trade currency whose acceptance depended entirely on design continuity. Changing it would have been commercially self-defeating.
The Pella mint's output during this window is distinguished from lifetime issues by subtle control marks catalogued by Martin Price in his 1991 corpus.
