| 正面描述 | Youthful head of Heracles facing right, depicted beardless with curling hair, wearing the Nemean lion skin headdress with the scalp knotted beneath the chin and the paws draped over the neck. The portrait is rendered in high relief in the Hellenistic tradition, with finely detailed curls framing the face. A fine dotted border encircles the coin field. |

Megalopolis was founded in 371 BC as a Theban strategic project to hem in Sparta, and by the late third century it had become a key node in the Achaean League. These tetradrachms, struck in the name of Alexander III decades after his death, reflect the widespread Macedonian practice of invoking his authority to lend legitimacy to local coinage — a convention so entrenched that posthumous issues in his name were produced across the Greek world well into the second century. Price 748 places this emission firmly within a narrow window that coincides with Macedonian pressure on the Peloponnese under Antigonus III Doson.
