| Obverse description | Youthful heroic bust of Herakles in right profile, wearing the lion-skin headdress with the scalp drawn over the crown and the forepaws knotted at the throat. The facial features are finely modelled with a strong jaw and prominent brow, in the Hellenistic portrait tradition derived from the coinage of Alexander III. The curling locks of hair emerge beneath the lion-skin at the nape and temple, and the overall style reflects the accomplished die-cutting characteristic of the Ionian mint at Erythrai. |

| Reverse description | Zeus Aëtophoros seated left on a high-backed throne, his body semi-nude with drapery across the lower limbs. He extends his right hand forward, upon which perches a spread-winged eagle, while his left hand holds a tall sceptre resting against his shoulder. The throne is elaborately rendered with decorative legs and a footstool beneath his feet. A mint control symbol — a torch above a monogram — appears in the left field, and the legend ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ runs along the right field in retrograde reading from top to bottom. |
