This issue belongs to the posthumous Alexander coinage struck at Corinth following the city's return to Macedonian influence after 308 BC, when Ptolemy briefly held the city before ceding control. Corinth operated as one of several western Greek mints producing Alexanders during the Wars of the Diadochi, when competing successors flooded the Mediterranean with silver coinage bearing the dead king's types to assert legitimacy — or simply to pay armies.
Price 676 places this emission within a tightly defined sequence based on die linkage studies. The Corinthian issues are distinguished from contemporaneous Sicyonian output by subtle fabric differences that remain a point of ongoing specialist debate.
