Obverse description Youthful head of Heracles in right-facing profile, wearing the Nemean lion skin headdress, the scalp drawn over the crown with the beast's gaping jaws framing the face and the forepaws knotted at the neck. The musculature and fur of the lion skin are rendered with fine engraving, conveying the heroic character of the type. The portrait, widely understood as an idealized likeness of Alexander III, displays smooth, beardless features with slightly parted lips. The field is plain, and the coin is enclosed within a beaded border, partially visible at the rim.
